Current Research

I am currently working on the 'Bridge to Success' project in conjunction with The Open University, University of Maryland University College, Anne Arundel Community College and MIT. This project will produce and study the development of Open Educational Resources, adapting proven OU openings courses as preparation US college audience, and providing support for their introduction in to colleges and other learning environments. The project is funded by the US Next Generation Learning Challenges initiative.

I am also currently working in Horizon to explore Intergenerational Interpretations of the Internet of Things. This project will develop scenarios of potential future technologies and use these as a basis to elicit understanding of interpretations by those of different ages.

Past Research

My research has broadly focused on the design and evaluation of novel technologies to support complex human activities. Topics have included learning, creativity, collaboration, user-centred design processes and lifelong health and wellbeing. I have held several research posts at the University of Bath and the Open University, exploring group creativity in design, the potential for new educational activities utilising mobile and collaboration technologies, creative life story therapies for dementia patients, and most recently, digital scholarship. For my PhD I developed a framework to understand support for creative interaction based on empirical studies and the design and evaluation of prototype systems.
