Biography

Professor John has a first degree (first class) in Mathematics, an MSc in Statistics and a PhD in Fuzzy Logic. He worked in industry on achieving his MSc in 1981. His first role was working for British Gas in London Research Station as an Operational Research mathematician. This is where he got interested in Artificial Intelligence. He devloped the frst operational expert systems in British Gas. Bob then joined Systems Designers as an AI consultant after which he worked as Technical Director of Softserv specialising in developing expert systems for the financial services industry. In 1989 John joined De Montfort University as a lecturer in mathematics. He spent 24 years at De Montfort in various roles including heading a research group (www.cci.dmu.ac.uk), Head of Department, Deputy Dean and Head of Research in the Faculty of Technology. Bob joined the University of Nottingham in February 2013 on the LANCS initiative and as Head of the ASAP research group (www.asap.ac.uk)

Research Summary

My main research interests lie in the modelling of human expertise in decision support using fuzzy logic. In particular I work in the field of type-2 fuzzy logic. My Google Scholar citations here.
