CI hosts CI Directors Roundtable on Management

As part of its 10-year anniversary celebration on 6th September, Nottingham Confucius Institute invited CI directors from across the UK for a roundtable discussion, focusing on how to improve personnel and financial management. Hosted in the Ingenuity Building on Jubilee Campus, it was chaired by NCI Directors Mr Jason Feehily and Dr Jinrong Meng, with 22 directors in attendance.

The delegates outlined their Institute’s general managerial features and requirements before exchanging views on good practices as well as problems and challenges they have encountered. Areas of focus included the range of responsibility for UK/China directors, the selection of CI teachers, workload allocation, applications for Hanban funding and how best to communicate with various stakeholders.

Feedback from all participants was very positive, with many of them expressing their gratitude to NCI for providing such a platform for CI directors to exchange experience and ideas.

“We are pleased to see all attendees very much engaged in the talks and discussions. Although UK CIs are clearly all different in their own way, some common regional problems in CI management can be identified,” commented Dr Jinrong Meng, Co-director of NCI. “To further promote the development of Confucius Institute in the UK, NCI shall report the outcome of the roundtable to Hanban so that some common problems can be addressed and resolved in the near future,” she promised.

英国当地时间2017年9月6日下午，孔子学院院长圆桌会议在诺丁汉大学朱比利校区（Jubilee Campus）的创新大楼（Ingenuity Building）会议室举行，英国20多所孔子学院院长出席了会议。

会议由诺丁汉大学孔子学院英方院长杰森·费海利（Jason Feehily）和中方院长孟金蓉主持，与会的22位院长就孔院财政管理、人员管理等议题进行了深入讨论。会前，诺丁汉大学孔子学院中方院长孟金蓉提倡院长们结合自身管理经验，提出切实可行的建议，以期进一步完善孔子学院管理机制。

会上，院长们畅所欲言，首先介绍了各自孔院的财政制度以及汉语教师管理等方面的情况，然后就师资、资金、与各方沟通等问题进行了细致的讨论，并交换了很多实质性的建议。诺丁汉孔院也表示，肯定会把会议涉及的相关问题向汉办总部提出建设性建议。

会议结束后，与会院长们表示此次论坛不仅为英国院长们提供了一个交流经验、互相学习借鉴的平台，更为院长们如何完善孔院管理体系，如何更好地面对未来的机遇和挑战带来了启发，特别是此类专题研讨更容易深入展开对区域共同面临问题的聚焦。相信此次会议将会进一步推动孔子学院在英国的发展。
