About our appointment system
First meeting
At your first contact with the Counselling Service you will be offered a reception appointment which will last approximately 30 minutes. As there is high demand for appointments please make every effort to attend or let us know if you no longer need the appointment. Occasionally you and the counsellor may need more than one session to clarify the situation.
What next?
Following the initial meeting, if regular ongoing appointments are required, we will place your name on our waiting list. These appointments last 50 minutes. The length of wait will depend on a number of factors, including the stage of the academic year and your availability.
Groups and workshops
You may be offered the opportunity of joining one of our groups and workshops. Working in a group may be the best option for some people. The choice about joining a group or workshop remains with you. The counsellor who you see for your reception appointment will discuss the options.
Missed appointments
Please see the Service's policy on missed appointments.
Waiting list
If you are offered ongoing appointments, we will send you a brief form and a timetable/availability request form. Further information on the waiting list system.
