Training placements

The University Counselling Service (UCS) offers a limited number of training placements (unpaid) each academic year (September to June).

  • We are not able to take students or staff members of The University of Nottingham due to boundary issues
  • Each placement is for one day per week, during University term-time only

UCS is based in the Trent Building on University Park Campus. It offers a free, confidential service and is staffed by a well-established team from a range of theoretical orientations. The Service is very busy and a challenging environment to work in, however, the team are very supportive and will offer help and the benefit of their experience.

The trainee will be expected to offer short-term work to students on one day each week during the University term time. Supervision will be offered on a weekly basis in the Service within the core theoretical orientation of the trainee.

Criteria

Applicants must have:

  • completed at least two years of professional training (not including introductory courses)
  • prior counselling experience in a professional setting
  • experience of working with people who have a range of emotional difficulties
  • work within the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) or the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) etchical framework, with particular reference to confidentiality and boundaries
  • be able to organise effectively and fulfil the administrative requirements of the Service
  • have the ability and willingness to work within a team
