Programme overview

Course description

The course develops your oral communication skills of the language through topics related to social, cultural and everyday life in the countries where the target language is spoken. The focus is on speaking as well as listening and reading materials, aiming to further develop your vocabulary and communication skills in German.

Advanced Spoken German Term 2 This module is designed for students who have completed a level 5 German evening class or who have an equivalent amount of study (approximately 400 hours of study, B2-C1 on the Common European Framework for Languages.)

On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Discuss topical news stories.
  • Talk about cultural issues: German films and TV; music in German; traditional foods.
  • Talk about issues relating to the 25th anniversary of the reunification.
  • Speak with increasing sophistication, using different registers.
  • Understand more advanced texts.
  • Argue topics.
  • Discuss feelings.
  • Use all tenses and moods with increasing mastery.
  • Use advanced language structures.

Students will be required to purchase a text book for this course.

**Please note** - The full level 1 course is 22 weeks. This is the second half of the 22 week course. New students are welcome to book on to the course if they have equivalent previous knowledge.

Our courses are delivered at the University of Nottingham Language Centre, within the Trent Building, on the University Park campus.
