About Us
The China Policy Institute (CPI) was set up by the University of Nottingham in 2003 as a think tank to expand the knowledge and understanding of contemporary China in the UK, Europe and worldwide, and to analyse critical challenges faced by China in its rapid development.

The Institute works with research centres in China and around the world to produce quality analysis on contemporary China on a broad range of topics in the fields of international relations, economics, business, politics, the environment and society.
Our goal is to help build a more informed dialogue between China and the rest of the world. The CPI is the research institute for Nottingham’s School of Contemporary Chinese Studies.
The Institute is supported by donations and sponsorship, and provides research and advice to decision-makers in government, business and other organisations upon request.
The China Policy Institute also provides consultancy services on a selective basis to governments, companies and organisations worldwide seeking input to their China strategies and business plans. In the UK, the CPI has assisted regional development agencies and others in formulating their plans to develop trade, investment and scientific collaboration with China. Proposals and requests for further information about CPI's consultancy services should be sent to the Director.
