Disaggregating Chinese Perception of the EU and Implications for the EU’s China Policy
Project objectives
The project aims at pursuing a comprehensive and thorough understanding of China’s perception of the EU, providing accurate knowledge concerning EU-China relations to the EU communities, and helping EU stakeholders to develop more effective strategies for achieving productive relations with China.
Specifically, the project targets the following goals:
First, capturing an overall and thorough understanding of how different segments of Chinese society view various aspects of the EU. Using an array of social research methods, including focus group discussions, in-depth interviews and questionnaire-surveys, the investigation will cover major segments of Chinese society, including government officials, intellectuals, businessmen, media workers, and civil society activists as well as the general public.
Second, providing answers to a series of questions which are vital to the development of more successful EU-China relations. Questions will cover the various aspects of EU-China relations, such as politics, economics, energy and environment, culture, education, and other related topics.
Third, publishing and disseminating a series of academic papers and policy statements. Based on research findings of the discussions, interviews, and surveys, these publications will promote communication among academics, policy associates and other stakeholders and will enable EU communities to develop more effective China policies.
