Poet, essayist, historian, travel-writer, biographer, translator and polemicist, Robert Southey (1774-1843) was one of the most controversial of all Romantic period writers.
This conference – held in Keswick, Southey’s home for 40 years – will celebrate the life and works of a high-profile experimental author, who was centrally involved in literary culture in Britain in the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. It coincides with an exhibition at the Keswick Museum and Art Gallery devoted to Southey.
