How can I avoid academic dishonesty?
Being caught out for plagiarism isn't the best way to learn about the importance of 'academic integrity'. Simply avoiding 'academic dishonesty' because it is the 'right' thing to do may be adequate, but is a less intelligent thing to. It's essential to understand why being honest in the university context is fundamental to your success as an individual, and to your future contribution to society.
There are a number of things you can do to improve your awareness of how to avoid academic dishonesty: you can- take the Academic Integrity Module including the self-test;
- take the Plagiarism Module, including its self-test;
- check your skills concerning citation and referencing, taking the self tests provided;.
- make sure you understand the University of Nottingham's policy on cheating, including plagiarism, and the penalties you will incur if you infringe these;
- check the course handbooks to make sure you understand requirements and expectations for written work;
- support the learning process by refusing to do work your friends should do themselves (collaboration).
