Supporting your studies

Your course

The Courses Office provide information on procedures and regulations for registering, making module choices, sitting exams and graduating. If you are thinking of changing your course, talk to your academic tutor, or contact the Student Advice Team to discuss your options and the implications. If you have any complaints, the Student Support Office can help you through the relevant procedures.

Study skills

Advice and support on techniques for taking notes, writing reports and essays etc. is available from the Academic Support . Information Services provide a Key Skills online package to help identify and develop skills alongside your academic study. For non-native English speakers, support is available from the Centre for English Language Education. Students with special needs can contact Academic Support for support and access to facilities such as a brailling suite and notetakers. Training opportunities are provided by the Graduate School for Postgraduates and by Information Services for all students.

Exams

For details on exam regulations, assessment generally, dates of upcoming exam periods and access to past exam papers, visit the Courses Office. Help on preparing for exams can be sought from the Student Advice Team and the Counselling Service can help with dealing with exam stress. Special arrangements for exams can be made for students with (for example) dyslexia or a broken arm; contact the Courses Office for details.

Computer access

Information Services provide a number of user areas fitted with networked computers for students to use, provide access to a dial-up service for Postgraduates living off-campus and run a Student IT Helpline to support your use of computers for your study. For students living in Halls of Residence the Student Network Service provides access to network facilities from study bedrooms. Information Services provide training for Postgraduates, as does the Graduate School. Information Services also run a Basic IT Skills programme for Undergraduates.
