Government consults academic on debt management

Dr John Gathergood from the Nottingham School of Economics is part of a team of experts who have been asked to provide oral evidence to the House of Commons Department for Business Innovation and Skills Select Committee Inquiry into Debt Management.

The Inquiry was launched following the Government’s response to its consultation on consumer credit and personal insolvency. Dr Gathergood was asked to testify before the committee as an academic expert on a range of issues relating to consumer credit and debt management including the pricing of consumer credit, consumer over-indebtedness, the personal insolvency regime and debtor use of financial advice.

Also providing evidence alongside Dr Gathergood are fellow academic Professor Iain Ramsey (Professor of Law, University of Kent and a member of the World Bank Working Group on Personal Insolvency), Joanna Elson (Chief Executive of the Money Advice Trust), Sarah Brooks (Director of Financial Service at the consumer campaign group Consumer Focus), Richard Lloyd (Executive Director of Which?), Teresa Perchard (Director of Policy at Citizens Advice), Delroy Corinaldi (Director of External Affairs at the Consumer Credit Counselling Service), and well known 'Money Saving Expert', Martin Lewis.
