Current Research

My PhD research project aims to shed light on the role of sovereign credit risk during the recent financial and government debt crisis with a particular focus on the euro area. I analyse empirically the determinants of sovereign debt credit ratings and rating agency behaviour. I find that attention to changes in sovereign credit ratings is high if there is uncertainty about the future state of fiscal fundamentals. In addition, credit rating agencies also react to fiscal uncertainty by changing ratings more frequently.
