"The integration of developing countries into the global economy is accelerating all the time. A large section of the world's population is involved in this process, which is why we need a clear and detailed picture of how people's livelihoods and prospects are being affected. The answers - or at least pieces of them - are to be found in all sorts of places and trends, from Mexico's greater reliance on offshoring production post-NAFTA to China's policies for promoting exports. The challenge lies in identifying the clues, sifting through the data and determining whether the reality matches the theory and vice versa."
