David Whynes

Emeritus Professor of Health Economics

"For the past 40-odd years I've been lucky enough to have been paid to find things out and tell people about them. Much of the time has been spent exploring health issues. I've collaborated with clinical researchers in numerous trials of new medicines or techniques, for which I undertake value-for-money analyses.

In addition, we've investigated how people make decisions about behaviour that impacts on their health - for example, attending cancer screening or smoking cigarettes. I find it rather satisfying that the results of our research would be of value to policymakers."
