Professor of Labour Economics

"The labour market is central to all our lives: how much we earn; how secure our jobs are; whether we experience unemployment; all of these have been shown to matter for our health, wealth and happiness. The labour market is also a source of fascinating data. As a result, labour economics has been at the leading edge of methods to discover the true "causal" impact of government policies and labour market institutions.

In my research I look at data on workers and firms. How do they meet and match? What happens when they separate and workers lose their jobs? How have they been affected by globalisation and technological change?"
