Simon G├Ąchter

Professor of the Psychology of Economics Decision Making

"The psychology of decision-making is of enormous relevance to everyday life. Just think about some of the decisions you make during an average day and how, for instance, they reflect the constant tension between your sense of self-interest and your sense of community spirit. Although most of us are prepared to pull our weight if others do, there's still the question of what we call the free-rider problem - what to do about those who consume more than their fair share. Experimental economics can shed an important light on issues like this and offer valuable insights into how to address them."
