Module description and content
The module will cover both theoretical and experimental research on a number of topics. Rather than give a broad overview of the field of Industrial Organisation we intend to cover a few topics in depth. Useful theory background is covered in a variety of textbooks, for example:

Martin, S., 2002, Advanced Industrial Economics, Blackwell.
Week 1 – Cournot and Stackelberg models of oligopolistic competition
Week 2 – Endogenous timing in models of oligopolistic competition
Week 3 – Price Competition
Week 4 – Price Competition with Consumer Inertia
Week 5 – Regulation - Encouraging Compliance Using Bonuses and Fines
Week 6 – Regulation - Leniency Policies in Antitrust
Week 7 – Spatial Price Competition
Week 8 – Comparing Price and Quantity Competition

Aims and objectives
The aims of this module are to:

Further students' understanding of theoretical models in industrial organisation

Further students' ability to identify practical and testable implications from theoretical models

Develop students' ability to apply analytical tools and critical thinking to a broad range of issues in industrial organisation

Develop students knowledge and tools for carrying out original research in this area.
By the end of the module students should have enhanced their abilities in the following dimensions as detailed in the Programme Specification for Economics:
