Description

A Centre for International Education Research and UNEVOC seminar

Presented by Professor Alan Rogers, visiting professor in the School of Education

Alan Rogers has just returned from a visit to the Folk Development Colleges in Tanzania after twenty years. In this seminar, after briefly outlining the transition of these institutions from their origins in the Scandinavian Folk High Schools into rather narrow and elementary vocational training institutions, he asks whether a liberal adult education curriculum can sit comfortably with a vocational training agenda.  Underlying these discussions are issues of power and politics - who decides what shall be provided for whom?  And whether educational systems can generate a life of their own.

Refreshments will be provided.
