Partnership with India to train tomorrow's teachers

The University of Nottingham has agreed a partnership with The International School Bangalore (TISB) Training Academy in India to run a postgraduate teacher education course.

The partnership will enable the University to offer the International Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCEi) to students in South Asia, with 25 students starting in the first year, rising to 60 in subsequent years.

Students will be based in South Asia, and will meet University of Nottingham tutors in Bangalore before progressing to work online.

Dr Lucy Cooker
, Director of International Teacher Development at the School of Education, had always been aware that there was a demand for the PGCEi in India, as almost 30 Indian teachers have successfully completed the course via other international cohorts in recent years.

Speaking about the partnership, Dr Cooker said: “Establishing a partnership with the prestigious TISB Training Academy is a very exciting development for us. It means that we can now offer University of Nottingham high quality teacher education in South Asia, opening up a whole new market for us.”
