Current Research

His research interests focus on ICT in language teaching, ESL/EFL teacher professional development, ELT programme evaluation, young adult literature, and teaching literature. He is particularly interested in exploring how teaching and learning of English as a second and foreign language are represented in the framework of sociocultural theory in the context of classroom, ICT and social environment at large.

He is currently working on three projects, namely the use of Web 2.0 in ELT in South East Asian countries, non-optionist ESL teachers' identity formation, and a three-year English language development programme in a private school in Malaysia.

Past Research

The following is the list of his previous research:

  1. The effects of teacher feedback on students' writing performance in EFL classroom
  2. Pre-service English language teachers' reflective practice and their responses to literary texts in online forums and weblogs
  3. Using bibliotherapy to address issues and problems faced by young adults - A preliminary investigation (Funded by 2006 UTAR Research Fund)
  4. Engaging young adults through young adult literature
  5. An examination of young adult concerns in K.S. Maniam's stories and the implications for their use as teaching texts

Future Research

He is keen on exploring further the impact of Web 2.0 on English language learning and how Web 2.0 influences English language teachers' identities.
