Biography

My first love is the theatre hence my undergraduate degree in Drama Film Television and American Studies. My early career centred upon Technical Direction and designing lights, set and stage managing for a variety of small to medium scale theatre companies and some Theatre in Education, as well as running for various film projects. A genuine portfolio artist, I was working a variety of roles and volunteering whilst also developing a career in youth and community work with an emphasis on youth and disability arts. I ran a youth project providing a safe place for young people, a needle exchange, advice and counseling on safer sex and risk reduction from substance misuse.

A full time move into youth and community arts followed. I made videos and facilitated a full range of arts activities including theatre shows, bands nights, screening, exhibitions and much more. Youth work was becoming increasingly professionalized during this period and so it was a logical move for me to leap from informal teaching to the more formal setting of the classroom.

My formal teaching experience began at the local college where I taught 'A' Level Media Studies, BTECs (ND/HND) and GNVQs. It was a natural extension to move from teaching HNDs to teach full time in Higher Education. During my time at Wolverhampton I have completed a PGCE FAHE and an MA in Interactive Media and become the Course Leader for Video and Film Production and Film production and Studies. I am currently undertaking a part time PhD at the University of Nottingham. I have taught contextual, theoretical, practical and negotiated modules. I am a personal academic tutor. I have also ridden the crest of the 'digital wave' as we have moved from analogue editing through to Media 100, Premier, Final Cut, AVID and back to Final Cut Studio Pro.

I have traveled widely throughout Europe and America and lived overseas for extended periods of time.

I once toured a show to Poland traveling t=from East to West just as the Berlin wall was coming down.
