CELE EAP programmes
 

English for Academic Purposes

  • Foundation Certificate in Business- designed for students wishing to pursue a Bachelors Degree in the fields of business and economics
  • Foundation Certificate in Arts and Social Sciences- designed for students wishing to pursue a Bachelors Degree in Law, Politics and many other areas of the Arts or Social Sciences.
  • Preparatory English - full-time English language courses to attain the required IELTS or TOEFL score in preparation for registration on your chosen University of Nottingham academic course.
  • Insessional English- non-assessed, non-accredited English language support course to assist with your academic language skills.

Students who successfully complete the Foundation Certificate in Arts and Social Sciences will receive an unconditional offer to study one of the School's BA awards - 
                                   Counselling, Humanities or

CELE Professional programmes
 

Language Teaching Education

  • Introduction to Teaching English as a Foreign Language- designed for 2nd year Modern Language students who will work as language assistants during their year abroad.
  • BA English Language and Applied Linguistics- offered as a 2+2 degree split between Ningbo and Nottingham this course is designed to provide a sophisticated understanding of how language is used in context, and influenced by purpose, setting and audience.
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching English for Academic Purposes (PGCTEAP)- a course focussing on theoretical and practical aspects of teaching English for Academic Purposes (EAP).
  • PhD English Language Education- we are happy to consider applications from students who want to study for a PhD in any of the areas of expertise of our CELE staff.
 

 

IELTS Examinations

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is designed to assess the language ability of candidates who need to study or work where English is the language of communication.  IELTS tests are held by CELE at the University of Nottingham approximately twice a month throughout the year.
