Masters in Special Needs (MA)

1 year full-time, 2-3 years part-time, Summer School

This course is designed for graduates, teachers or other professionals who have an interest in increasing their knowledge and skills in the field of special needs. It covers four main areas, 

  • Understanding and supporting students with reading difficulties/dyslexia;
  • Personal, social and emotional development;
  • Behaviour and relationship management;
  • Understanding and supporting mental well-being. 

The course contains both taught and experiential elements. It covers the theoretical aspects of each area, practical strategies and aspects of self-development. The course is also supplemented by seminars and workshops about study & research skills as well as additional needs such as sensory impairments, speech and language difficulties, and severe learning difficulties.

You also have the opportunity to volunteer in local schools to gain greater experience.

  • 1 year full-time, 2-3 years part-time;
  • PG Diploma and Certificate exit points;
  • Structured to enhance academic and professional potential;
  • Ideal preparation for MPhil or PhD.

 

Special Needs via Summer School

24 July - 10 August 2012

Summer School is an exciting opportunity to experience short intensive study blocks and gain credits towards a Masters qualification.

 

Entry requirements

To register for the Special Needs course you normally need to be:

  • A graduate of an approved university or institute of higher education with at least a second-class honours degree;
    or
  • A holder of an approved professional qualification equivalent to a first degree

Applicants whose first language is not English must, as a minimum, fulfill one of the following conditions:

  • IELTS 6.5 (no less than 6.0 in any element)
  • TOEFL 87 (no less than 21 in listening and writing, 22 in reading and 23 in speaking)
