This course will equip you with the skills and knowledge to help you in this quest and enable you to become a teacher who can make a real difference to the lives of pupils.
We work very closely with partnership schools to ensure that you develop an in-depth understanding of the history curriculum. This ensures a course that is relevant to the changing demands of history teaching.
The Partnership is committed to promoting diversity in the teaching workforce, and we welcome applications from all sectors of society both in Britain and internationally.
"The overall effectiveness of the University of Nottingham in securing high quality outcomes for trainees is outstanding."

What will you learn?
You will examine how pupils engage with the past and how we work with them as teachers to analyse, interpret, evaluate and contextualise events and historical sources. We will explore with you a range of different approaches and activities used in history classrooms including the use of ICT. We investigate the range of approaches and methods that can be used to assess pupils’ understanding and how we can use this to inform future teaching and learning. We also explore how historical sites, fieldwork visits and museums can support and enhance pupil learning.
The history programme has been devised and jointly planned with our team of history mentors and so the University and school based work are integrated. In schools you will work closely with a mentor and will be involved in all aspects of a teacher’s role. You will observe experienced teachers, work with individual and small groups of pupils and eventually move on to teaching whole classes. So as you can see the course is designed to give you a full experience of working with a range of pupils across the 11-18 age range. In the university you will be working with other students in lectures, seminars, tutorials and workshops. There is an emphasis on student participation and linking your school experiences with the educational theory.
