tbcCreating a blog on community

Tutorial overview

Community is the University of Nottingham's own social networking site. It is free and open for any staff member to use - you can log in using your normal username and password. One of the features available on community is a blog, and here is a guide on how to do that.

This tutorial is rated as - 1 computer - easy to achieve

You'll need the following software - Internet explorer, firefox - any web browser

You'll need the following hardware - A modern PC connected to the internet

The other factors might help - Something to blog about!

You'll need to work through the following steps:-

  1. Log into community
  2. Once logged in, click "Your Blog" - it is one of the 'tabs' towards the top left of the screen
  3. Wait for the next page to appear, then click "Post a new entry"
  4. What you put in the 'Post title:' text box will appear in a bigger font on the page - think of it as the blog's headline.
  5. In the large text box write whatever you'd like to. This is the main part of the blog.
  6. The keywords box allows you to use words to describe your blog, and then people who search for these words will have your blog in their search results.
  7. If you'd prefer you can use the access restrictions list to set who can see this blog - just to warn you - a public blog will be visible to everyone on the internet.
  8. When you are done - click post

Possible benefits - Blogs allow you to let people know your opinions and invite comments and feedback. They are a good way to let people know your news as well as discuss topics you are interested in.

Ideas on how to use this - Why not set up series of blogs around a particular topic, and see how your ideas develop as people give you feedback.
