A prim (primitive object) is the name for a building block in Second Life. Several prims can be linked together to create more complex shapes and objects.

To create a basic prim:

  1. Right click the ground
  2. Click Create in the pie menu to open the Tools window
  3. Select the basic shape you want to create, e.g. cube, sphere or pyramid
  4. Click the ground to create the prim
  5. While the prim is still selected you can edit the shape's properties using the various options in the Tools window

To create more complex objects you can link several prims together:

  1. Right click a prim and select Edit from the pie menu
  2. Hold down Shift and click the next prim
  3. Continue until all the prims you want to link are selected
  4. Press Ctrl-L to link the selected prims together

You must have edit permission on all prims you are linking together.

To unlink a multi-prim object, right click the object and click Edit. Then click Ctrl-Shift-L.
