PhD opportunities

 

PhD Graduation
 

We offer PhDs across all areas of ergonomics/human factors within the Human Factors Research Group.  Funding for PhDs comes from a variety of sources, including the Faculty of Engineering EPSRC Doctoral Training Account, industry or research council sponsored projects, or students who fund their own research.

Past and current topics being covered by our students include:

  • Development of a workload assessment toolkit
  • Safety critical communication in railway control
  • Health and Safety of Virtual Reality
  • Knowledge in planning, scheduling and control environments
  • Human error in air traffic control
  • Musculoskeletal injury risk in assembly tasks
  • Interaction design in virtual environments
  • Handheld technologies in rail
  • Design and evaluation of culturally aware vehicle navigation systems
  • Design of rail automation
  • User-centred and participatory design methods

In addition, there are opportunities to study on our new four year PhD programme as part of the Doctoral Training Centre (DTC) in Ubiquitous Computing for a Digital Economy. The DTC is now recruiting students for September 2012.
