Risk management, productivity and management systems

Problems in construction rarely, if ever, exist in isolation. By studying particular aspects in isolation, false impressions can be created and consequent wrong actions taken. Systems methodologies provide a means of studying construction in an holistic fashion.

Dr Mawdesley and his team have used, and are using, systems methodologies to explore:

  • Productivity in construction
  • Human aspects of risk in construction
  • The differences between labour intensive and equipment based construction in a developing economy
  • The effects of the economy on mega-projects
  • Management actions to improve the performance of a construction company
  • Management decisions and sustainable construction

Both hard and soft systems methodologies are used by the team.

The team collaborates closely with colleagues in The Netherlands and Australia.
