About us
The Polymer Composites Research Group at Nottingham is one of the leading international research groups in this area. With a team of over 40 staff and research funding of £1.5million per year we conduct fundamental and applied research on manufacture and performance of advanced fibre reinforced composites. These are applied in a number of demanding sectors including automotive, aerospace, wind energy and medicine.
Experimental programmes include development of novel manufacturing processes, materials characterisation, end-of-life and recycling. Modelling studies relate to mechanical performance and process simulation, including numerical analyses using FEA and CFD.
Our key activities include:
-
Cost effective processing for thermoplastics and thermosets
-
Textile composites, supported by an EPSRC Platform Grant
-
Crashworthiness, including design for pedestrian safety
-
Bio-composites, including work on regenerative implants
-
End-of-life/recycling
The group has active collaborations with a large number of companies and other reputable research groups and it maintains a large portfolio of current research grants.
