Student Experience

eee-student-experience

  • 90% student satisfaction rate*

Our students' welfare and their experience whilst studying in our department is of paramount importance. In the National Student Survey 2016 our student satisfaction rate was ranked fourth in the Russell Group and we aim to continue this level of success and support for our students.

To ensure this level of satisfaction continues we give you access to the following resources:

Student Service Centres

The new Student Service Centres and Students Services website are administrative hubs where you can complete a range of tasks relating both to your course and to the wider University experience. This may include handing in coursework, applying for extenuating circumstances, accessing welfare support or paying your fees. If you have any queries about your time at University then please drop in and ask a member of the team. Alternatively, you can fill in the enquiry form on the website and they will contact you.

Design suite

We have recently invested in a newly refurbished design suite exclusively for chemical and environtmental engineering students. The suite can be found on ground floor of the Coates Building and is designed to be a comfortable study area with modern audio visual equipment on hand to facilitate team project work to develop students' interactive and creative skills.

All engineering students also have access to the newly equipped design studio in the ESLC which is build as a dedicated student space for group work all within a modern setting and feature new audio visual equipment.

There are also fully equipped modern lecture theatres, 24-hour access to IT and library facilities and extensive laboratories that facilitate scientific apparatus for small-scale modular experiments, through to pilot-scale rigs.

A new further design suite is also available to all engineering students in the Engineering and Science Learning Centre (ESLC)

Electrical and Electronic Engineering Society

ShockSoc is a society ran by students for anyone with an interest in electronic and electrical engineering. Regular socials are organised, including paintballing and quiz nights, for a chance to socialise outside of study time. There is also an opportunity to get involved in sport. To find out more about ShockSoc visit the Student’s Union website.

Engineering Student Experience Fund.

The Engineering Student Experience Fund (ESEF) is open to bids from across the department and looks to support events, programmes or initiatives that will enhance - not only the student experience - but also our community within the Faculty of Engineering. Previous bids have brought students, staff and alumni alike together to celebrate the diversity, achievements and skill that we see in the faculty every day.

To find out more visit the Engineering Student Experience Fund website.

*Rank and percentage relates to Question 22 of the NSS which looks at IT resource, learning resource, academic support, assessment and feedback, personal development, organisation and management and Students' Union.
