Expertise Summary

Dr Jones is a part of the Composites Research Group.

Dr Jones has interests in all aspects of engineering mechanics and its applications, but with particular emphasis upon the following areas:

  • Computational mechanics and its applications, particularly to composite materials including their design, manufacture and stress analysis
  • Novel applications of computational mechanics techniques, including their use in the models underlying virtual reality simulations, and within the design optimisation of MRI systems
  • Experimental mechanics techniques including photoelasticity
  • Inverse analysis techniques including hybrid experimental/numerical methods such as the fitting of photoelastic data to inverse boundary element models, and the use of inverse BE techniques in design of (for example) coils for MRI scanners

Dr Jones also has wider interests in the promotion of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research, and many of his projects span several disciplines such as computer science, physics and engineering.
