Where will our power come from in 2015? - Wednesday 18 May 2011
Speaker: Professor Anthony Marmont
Date: Wednesday 18 May 2011
Time: 18:00
Location: Coates Road Auditorium
Professor Tony Marmont formed Beacon Energy in 1992 as a not-for-profit organisation. At this time he provided substantial funds to his three local universities to support research and education in Renewable Energy and Sustainability. Loughborough University, the University of Nottingham and De Montfort University all now have world leading research and education centres specialising in different aspects of the subject. Loughborough University awarded Professor Marmont with the degrees of Doctor of Science and Doctor of Technology in 1998, before he became a visiting Professor to the University. Over the years Tony Marmont has impacted greatly on public and local authority attitudes. He lobbied the East Midlands Development Agency (emda) to elevate sustainability and climate change in their policies, advised on the redevelopment of the Shirebrook Colliery site in Nottingham and hectored the local electricity company over feed-in arrangements for exported green electricity. In 2008 Tony Marmont inspired the formation of the UK Sustainable Development Association, an association for businesses that provide products and services to help reduce the UK’s carbon footprint. In 2009 Professor Marmont was presented with the ‘Individual Achievement Award’ by the Energy Institute, in recognition of 30 years of dedication to averting man-made climate change.
