Disability Information

Disability Information

The University of Nottingham is committed to promoting access for students who have a disability, dyslexia and/or a long-term medical condition. The University offers a range of academic and practical support to enable students to fulfil the inherent requirements of their course as independently as possible.

School Disability Liaison Officer

In addition to every student in the School having an academic Personal Tutor, there is a Disability Liaison Officer (DLO). The DLO coordinates with all staff in the School, Academic Support, and other bodies within the University to ensure that you receive the support required. The Disability Liaison Officer in the School of English is Wenonah Barton . Students are asked to contact Wenonah as soon as they arrive in Nottingham.

Student Services Centre

Located on the ground floor of the Portland Building, the Student Services Centre provides all kinds of information and support for students during their student life. The Centre includes Academic Support and the Disability Policy Advisory Unit.

Academic Support

Academic Support offers academic and practical support for all students in a variety of ways.

  • Advice and help in developing study skills and strategies
  • Information about Disabled Students' Allowances (DSA's). As a registered ACCESS Centre, the unit can carry out the assessments required by your LEA or funding body.
  • Recommendations for alternative arrangements for examinations, assessments and timetabling.
  • Assistance with queries about alternative formats, adapted accommodation and University provision of accessible transport.

Disability Policy Advisory Unit

The Disability Policy Advisory Unit (DPAU) is responsible for promoting access for all disabled students and applicants by influencing the development of policy and procedures relating to disability and ensuring their compliance with the Special Educational Needs and Disability Act (SENDA) 2001, which is an amendment to the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) 1995.

Students' Union

The Students' Union has a voluntary group, Disability Action, that works to make sure that all students with a disability can access fair provision of education and services. They provide information, support and advice to students, as well as organising social events.
