Psycholinguistics Laboratory at China Campus

Dr Margaret Dowens, a Lecturer in Applied Linguistics at the Division of English, Ningbo Campus, has been successful in her bid to the Research Committee on the Ningbo Campus for Infrastructure Funding for EEG (electroencephalography) equipment to set up a neuro/psycholinguistics laboratory.  Dr Dowens intends to use the equipment to carry out a series of planned experiments on the brain correlates of bilingualism and of reading in different scripts, but will also facilitate future joint psycholinguistic projects with the Malaysia campus (UNMC) and academic staff at the Nottingham campus as well as local and international partners. The full value of the funding awarded is £75,000.

Dr Dowens will be developing her research on the bilingual campus at Ningbo and is pleased that the students will have exciting opportunities to participate in experiments and learning how to use the technique first hand.  The Division of English is currently offering a PhD scholarship linked to this research work in Psycholinguistics/Cognitive Neuroscience of Language (closing date 31 July 2012.)
