The School of English offers opportunities for some of our Research Students to teach at undergraduate level. Research students normally apply to be a part-time teacher from their second year of PhD registration at The University of Nottingham onwards. There are also opportunities for research students to apply for a Postgraduate Teaching Fellowship. The Postgraduate Teaching Fellowship is a School funded scholarship and is for HEU tuition fees scholarship and full stipend for three years. Research Students who wish to teach are selected for teaching through a process of presentation and interview in the School. Selection is subject to the agreement of the research students' Supervisors.
Research Students who teach are supported through all aspects of module teaching by staff already convening and teaching on the module and by a training programme run by the University’s Professional Development Unit. New part-time teaching staff must attend the following training courses provided by Professional Development:

Newly appointed part-time teaching staff normally teach seminars or workshops to first-year undergraduate students.

Research students who have already taught in the School do not need to re-apply to teach in 2011/12 but should contact their Head of Section to confirm their availability for teaching in the following academic year.
