MA in AppliedLinguistics
The School of English at Nottingham has long been at the forefront of research and teaching in the area of applied linguistics.
The MA programme in Applied Linguistics provides an exciting opportunity to investigate English language in applied contexts. You will work with several leading world figures while discovering your own position in applied linguistics. The programme covers a wide range of material, with options to pursue your own interests and research. It is particularly suitable for students who wish to continue their studies at PhD level after completing their MA.
The principle of language study we have established at Nottingham combines theoretical and ideological dimensions with highly practical applications. This course explores the role of language in human affairs using a variety of approaches, ranging from discourse analysis to corpus linguistics.
With a particular focus on research methodology, the programme offers an opportunity for investigating language and a communication from an interdisciplinary angle. You will be taught using the latest advances in teaching methods and electronic resources, as well as small-group and individual tuition.

Course Structure
Full-time students normally complete the course within one year; part-time students take between 24 and 36 months to complete. A part-time mode can be followed by web-study, taking between 24 and 48 months.

June to September
You need to take 120 credits' worth of modules before completing the dissertation. Compulsory modules in Research Methods provide students with the necesary skills to pursue further postgraduate research in this area. Additional specialist modules are constantly being added to the bank of options, and students are also able to follow some other modules from elsewhere in the School of English, in the areas of literary linguistucs, language and education, medieval and modern literature.
