Research Expertise within the School of English

The School undertakes research and offers research supervision in the following areas:

  • Literatures in English from the Anglo-Saxons to the present day;
  • Individual authors, especially but not only Blake, Byron, Coetzee, Dickens, Langland, Lawrence, McEwan, Pope, Pulter, Shakespeare, Southey, Swift, Wilde, Woolf
  • Drama of all periods, with a particular focus on drama as performance;
  • Modern English language, applied linguistics, literary linguistics, psycholinguistics;
  • Historical language study including place-names;
  • Old Norse and Viking Studies.
