ModelMaker
ModelMaker was orginally developed at Nottingham by Andrew Walker
and Neil Crout. We won the 'Business Software Challenge' with it
in 1993 (and actually had one of those big cardboard cheques, physically
big that is, not enough to reture on!)
The original idea was to allow us to undertake the kind of applied
work we had within the group (i.e. lots of compartment style models,
differential equations that required non-linear parameterisation)
without needing specific programming skills.
We still use it, albeit mainly in teaching applications. For most
of our research work we are using our own OpenModel
package or more heavy duty packages such as MatLab, or even sometimes
writing our own code!

The software was subsequently commercialised and there is now no
contact between the company who own the software and the University.
