XCRI | eXchanging Course Related Information

XCRI-CAP is the UK data standard for courses information. We have been working with XCRI-CAP since 2008, developing projects to pilot the use of XCRI within the East Midlands region to faciliate the movement and aggregation of courses data from learning providers, area prospectuses and a regional course aggregator.

XCRI Knowledge Base

In 2010, alongside Alan Paull and the JISC CCLIP project, the CIePD helped develop the XCRI Knowledge Base. This is the central source of all XCRI-CAP related information and includes business cases, case studies, code samples and more. This resource is updated regularly and is located at www.xcri.co.uk

Course Data Programme 2011 to 2013

The team is providing expert input into the JISC Course Data Programme. This programme involved 95 Higher and Further Education institutions undertaking planning projects at Stage One, with a significant number of those progressing to Stage Two to undertake full implementations of XCRI-CAP and improvements in their course management processes. Further information is available from JISC.

XCRI Benefits

Learners and outside aggregators will all benefit from access to accurate and timely courses information, and learning providers can reduce the time manually exporting courses data for agencies as well as ensure that their definitive courses information is accessible to the outside world. XCRI is endorsed by HEFCE, JISC and the ISB, and is in the process of becoming the European standard.

XCRI in the East Midlands

The CIePD are/have been working on five XCRI projects amounting to a fairly significant set of pilots involving export of XCRI feeds and aggregation from around 10 data providers.
