XCRI | and the East Midlands' Lifelong Learning Networks

PDF document New XCRI Report - Skills for Sustainable Communities Lifelong Learning Network, December 2010

"2010 saw a good deal of change for education providers and learners. The continued economic downturn, announcements of funding cuts coupled with extra challenges ‘to do more with less’ provided the backdrop for much of this XCRI project. The benefits of engaging with XCRI have therefore become more pertinent in recent months, aiding institutions to streamline their internal business processes, provide better information to their learners and potentially reducing the amount of time and effort spent updating external course websites."

There are two Lifelong Learning Networks (LLNs) in the East Midlands. Leap Ahead, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire and Skills for Sustainable Communities (SSCLLN), Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Lincolnshire & Rutland.

The CIePD has worked with both LLNs' network partners since 2008 to develop XCRI feed exports with various institutions.

For LLN XCRI projects, the Aimhigher in the East Midlands webite, Your Future East Midlands, has provided a central aggregation point for testing these XCRI feeds. The aim is to streamline the courses data collection from all East Midlands' institutions so as progression information displayed can be as current and up to date as possible. This import is being further developed in the ROBOT-XCRI project.

Once institutions are happy that they have a quality authoritative data feed, there are many other services which can be developed and enhanced. Other courses aggregators, the Area Wide Prospectuses, and Foundation Degree Forward are also developing XCRI import services, which will greatly reduce the burden of manual/individualised data collection for all involved.

This project continues the engagement of educational institutions into Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Lincolnshire & Rutland. Technical support and funding is available until December 2010 to help institutions in this area develop their own XCRI export feeds. See report
