University celebrates four new Fellows of the Academy of Social Sciences

The University is delighted to announce that four colleagues are among 46 leading social scientists to be conferred the award of Fellow from The Academy of Social Sciences this month.

  • Professor Alison Pilnick, Professor of Language, Medicine and Society, School of Sociology and Social Policy. Professor Pilnick is a pioneer of the field of genetics and society and a leading researcher in ethnographic studies in healthcare. Professor Pilnick is also Director of the University's ESRC Doctoral Training Centre.
  • Professor Ken StarkeyProfessor of Management and Organizational Learning, Nottingham University Business School. Professor Starkey is a leading figure internationally in the field of business and management studies, with a particular focus on research and research policy.
  • Professor Patricia Thomson, Professor of Education, School of Education. Professor Thomson is a leading researcher on doctoral education. Pat also directs the University's Centre for Advanced Studies.
  • Professor Kavita VedharaProfessor of Health Psychology, School of Medicine. Professor Vedhara is a leading researcher in understanding the psychobiological mechanisms of disease and the development of interventions to maximise health in patients with chronic disease.

Professor Todd Landman, PVC of the Faculty of Social Sciences said: "I am thrilled and delighted that The University of Nottingham has four new fellows of the Academy of Social Sciences, and that three of them are from the Faculty of Social Sciences. Their success is a clear demonstration of the depth and breadth of our research and educational activities in the Faculty."
