CD, DVD and video tape recycling

CDs and DVDs
Before you decide to recycle your unwanted CDs and DVDs, you may want to consider a few other options:

  • Donate them! Give them to a charity shop, school or jumble sale.
  • Sell them! If your CDs aren’t damaged, you might want to put them back into circulation, either by trading them in at a local record dealer or on the internet.
  • CDs can be covered in felt and used as coasters.
  • You can use your old CDs to deter birds from your plants by hanging them in your garden.
  • Create a shiny wind chime with several old CDs.

Unwanted CDs and DVDs get turned into unique clocks by a group of artists running www.recyclingcds.com. Contact them with the quantity of CDs and DVDs you have and they'll get back to you with details of where to post them to.

If you require secure destruction of CDs or DVDs, send them to Poly C Reclaimers. They do same day granulation and have 24 hour security, providing high security for any sensitive information. They will also supply a certificate of destruction and confirmation of the weights you have diverted from landfill to the recycling chain. Post them to:

Video tapes
VHS tapes are recycled by The Recycling People. Tapes are removed from the cassettes and the plastic cassettes are then recycled.
