Computer Recycling

Each year a significant amount of redundant computer equipment is generated across the University. In some instances this equipment still has life in it and is re-used internally or by external organisations.

Damaged computer equipment is recycled by a local company, who strip down the computer equipment to their component parts and recycle these. With the full implementation of the WEEE directive later this year we will be seeing ever stringent regulations on the disposal of all waste electrical and electronic equipment.

If you have Computer equipment that you no-longer require please contact your departments PC Disposal Co-ordinator

The Recycling Process

  • Computers are collected off campus and the de-manufactured
  • Each component is sorted and separated according to type or material
  • Materials like aluminium and steal are then recycled to make new products.
  • non-reusable substances are disposed of in an environmentally sound manner
