Current Developments

Jubilee Campus: New China Building

Construction has commenced on a new academic building on Jubilee Campus. This will house the School of Contemporary Chinese Studies and various other teaching facilities.

The building will be complete in the Autumn of 2012 and is being constructed by GFT Tomlinson. The design team incorporates Lewis & Hickey (Architects), URS Scott Wilson (Services Engineer), Clarkebond UK (Structural Engineer), Anderson Green (BREEAM) and Gleeds (Project Manager and Cost Manager).

Derby School of Nursing

The University has commenced construction of a School of Nursing extension at the Royal Derby Hospital. The centre comprises office and teaching space and is an extension to the current facilities at the site.

Construction started in summer 2011, with completion due in summer 2012. The contractor is Baggaley Construction and the architect is Franklin Ellis, with Gleeds as project manager and quantity surveyor.

University Park: Highfield House Redevelopment 

The University has commenced construction of a new Centre for Advanced Studies (CAS) and Graduate Centre. The centre comprises a refurbishment and extension to the grade 2 listed Highfield House on University Park. The development has received permission and listed building consent.

The building comprises various offices for academic and administration staff in CAS and the Graduate School. There are various meeting and seminar rooms and two floors of open plan interactive teaching and learning hubs for postgraduate use.

Construction started in autumn 2011, with completion due in summer 2012. The design team comprises Latham Architects (architect), DH Squire Consultants (services engineer), Price & Myers (structural engineer), Anderson Green (BREEAM) and Turner & Townsend (project manager and quantity surveyor).

University Park: University Park Hotel

Construction has commenced on a new 202 mid-range hotel on University Park.

The hotel will be sited adjacent to the East Midlands Conference Centre and has been designed to nestle sensitively into its surroundings and will have strong links to the surrounding landscape.

The hotel will comprise of 202 bedrooms; 55 of which are executive rooms, 5 accessible rooms and 142 standard rooms. In addition, the hotel will provide bar and restaurant facilities, lounge / TV / public areas, small meeting rooms, a guest dry gym / fitness room, executive lounge for guests and additional car parking spaces.

Construction started in summer 2011, with completion due in winter 2012. The design team comprises RHWL (architect), Elementa (services engineer), Clarke Nicholls Marcel (structural engineer), Graven Images (interior designer), Crystal Management (project manager) and Capita Symonds (quantity surveyor). The contractor is Bam Construction.

Jubilee Campus: Aerospace Technology Centre

This new build development on Jubilee campus is to the rear of the Energy Technologies Building and the Institute of Mental Health Building and is being jointly funded for by the University of Nottingham and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

The building will house a range of researchers and projects from the Faculty of Engineering and comprises a large workshop / laboratory, meeting rooms and offices.

Construction started in summer 2011, with completion due in summer 2012. The main contractor is Baggaley Construction and the design team comprises William Saunders (architect), Building Services Partnership (services engineer), Curtins (structural engineer), Anderson Green (BREEAM) and Turner & Townsend (project manager & quantity surveyor).

Jubilee Campus: Institute of Mental Health Building (IMH)

This new facility, located adjacent to the Jubilee Campus Sports Centre, is being funded by the University of Nottingham for the tenancy of the Institute of Mental Health. The new building will comprise specialist laboratories, training rooms, offices and meeting rooms for use by the IMH.

Construction started in summer 2011, with completion due in summer 2012. The main contractor is GF Tomlinson and the design team comprises Benoy (architect), DH Squires (services engineer), Waldeck (structural engineer), Anderson Green (BREEAM), Gaskell (quantity surveyor) and Sand (project manager).

Jubilee Campus: Energy Technologies Building (ETB)

This new facility, located adjacent to the Nottingham Geospatial Building is being jointly funded by the University of Nottingham and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

The new building will comprise specialist laboratories, a prototype hall, an exhibition area, a rooftop laboratory zone, offices and external technology area for use as an energy testing facility.

The 2,500 m2 facility will provide the University with a centre that is specifically designed for continuing and developing its world-leading energy research. It should also attract increased attention from industry, academia, funding agencies, researchers, students and stimulate public interest in new developments in sustainable energy. The building itself plans to gain a BREEAM 'Outstanding' rating, and will produce more energy than it requires and will heat the neighbouring Institute of Mental Health Building.

Construction started in summer 2011, with completion due in summer 2012. The main contractor is Clegg construction and the design team comprises Maber Associates (architect), AECOM (services engineer), Price & Myers (structural engineer), Anderson Green (BREEAM) and Edmond Shipway (project manager & quantity surveyor).

University Park Master plan

The University has recently drafted a Master plan for University Park, this encompasses many issues including pedestrian routes, development areas and car parking. Hopkins Architects were appointed to undertake the master plan to provide a framework for development of the campus.

Sutton Bonington Master plan

The University has commissioned Make Architects to prepare a draft Master plan for the Sutton Bonington campus with the intention of providing a longer term broad framework for further development, together with the specific identification of the sites for two new buildings - the School of Veterinary Medicine / Biosciences building and the separate Bio Energy Building.

A second consultation has been given to the Sutton Bonington community to explain the approach and methodology in addressing the Master plan exercise and in the production of the attached report. The master plan is now supported by management board.
