Now into it's second decade, the Innovation Fellowships programme (previously known as the Higher Education Innovation and Regional Fellowships programme, or 'HIRF') is a successful, long-standing collaborative programme across East Midlands Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) that has been operating since 2000.
The funding is currently provided by emda and ERDF, having previously been awarded funds through HEFCE, and now supports applications from all nine regional HEIs for Fellowships to encourage the commercialisation of research and knowledge, increasing the flow of new technology from universities to business.
Since its establishment the programme has seen almost 500 applications for support, the granting of 200 successful awards, and the deployment of over £2.3m into early stage commercialisation projects, some of which have gone on to become successful spin-out companies.
