We offer a flexible MA structure which allows students to combine guided research modules across the wide range of French Studies with a dissertation of 20-25,000 words on a chosen topic. Depending on your choice of areas, you will graduate with one of the following qualifications:

All students also follow a compulsory course of research training which offers both generic skills, such as bibliographical or IT training, and subject-specific  methodological and theoretical approaches.

Students studying the MA in French now have the option of specialising either in Sociolinguistics or in the field of Translation Studies. More detailed information on these two routes is available here.

There is also the opportunity to take an MA in Modern Languages and Critical Theory.  This programme combines the extraordinarily wide research expertise in the School's four language departments with study in the Department of Cultural Studies and its Centre for Critical Theory.
