Overview of the course

If you already have a degree you may think that training for a career in medicine may entail starting all over again. But the GEM course is a four-year, fast-track option for graduates from a wide range of educational and professional backgrounds.

Our curriculum covers basic and clinical sciences, as well as equipping you with all the skills you will need to effectively practice as a doctor. Students will graduate with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (BM BS).

There are two phases to the course:

  • An 18-month pre clinical programme based at the Royal Derby Hospital. For further information follow the link to GEM -The pre clinical course
  • 30 months of clinical training in healthcare facilities across the mid-Trent region -  you will join students from the undergraduate course for this phase. Please follow the link GEM - Clinical training attachments for further information .
