Introduction
Our aim is to promote excellence in research and teaching within a supportive learning environment for all postgraduate research students enabling you to gain both subject specific and generic training skills during your studies in our School. Gaining these skills happens through direct interaction with your supervisor(s) and other PGR students and by participation in both the Postgraduate Training Programme run by the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and through the University provision of a generic training programme run by the Graduate School. While you will principally look to your supervisor for guidance, all the academic staff of the School assume a collective responsibility for your progress and achievement.
We have a number of procedures in place, through your Supervisor(s), the School Postgraduate Student Adviser and the School Postgraduate Education Committee, to enable us to monitor your progress, to seek your opinion on School policy, and for you to obtain confidential advice. We appreciate the importance of the contribution of postgraduate students to the success of the School and look forward to you becoming an integral part of day-to-day life while you develop the skills that will enable you to become a successful and independent researcher.
