Academic expert publishes first in-depth book on fashion economies from a geographer's perspective

Geographies of Fashion

Professor Louise Crewe from the School of Geography will publish the first in-depth study of fashion economies from a geographer's perspective next week.

The Geographies of Fashion: Consumption, Space and Value will be released on Thursday 23 March and is available to pre-order now from Bloomsbury Academic.

The book will explore the complex relationship between people's attachment to the clothes they own, love and desire, and their geographic and economic ties.

It will look to address questions such as:

  • How far does a garment physically travel from factory to wardrobe?
  • How do clothes come to have social or economic value and who or what creates it?
  • What are the geographies of fashion and how do they interact with one another?

"The Geographies of Fashion opens up a broader unexplored spatial landscape to question and investigate notions of habitation, intimacy, memory and identity." - Francesca Murialdo, Middlesex University

Combining contemporary theoretical approaches with a cutting-edge analysis of international fashion brands and institutions including Maison Martin Margiela, Zara, Louis Vuitton, ASOS and Savile Row, The Geographies of Fashion is essential reading for students of fashion, geography and related disciplines including sociology, architecture and design.

Louise is Professor of Human Geography and Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education and Student Experience within the Faculty of Social Sciences at Nottingham. Her research covers fashion, consumption, retailing, exchange and value.
